Seeds of Hope

Seeds of Hope is a series of illustrations that are set to fire.
Inspired by the deep feeling of loss after this country’s 2019/2020 bushfire season—the worst in history.

These botanical illustrations represent the plants, trees, and grasses that are most resilient to fire—that actually benefit from fire. Their seeds spread widely over the south-eastern forests of Australia and are the species that will recover best after fire. Seeds have been collected locally and are included alongside the artwork to give you a chance to grow the plants that hold the most hope for ecological restoration after fire.

Seeds are the starting point for ecological restoration. Seeds give us an understanding of the natural processes and needs of nature. These 'Seeds of Hope' represent nature’s untapped potential and hold a wealth of promise for growth in the future. Seeds will eventually become the plants, grasses, and trees that are needed to restore the natural processes to the Australian landscape. These seeds will empower you to take part in repairing the damage.

Proceeds from Seeds of Hope will go to Firesticks Alliance Indigenous Corporation. Firesticks is an Indigenous-led network that aims to re-invigorate the use of cultural burning by facilitating cultural learning pathways to fire & land management. It is an initiative for Indigenous and non-Indigenous people to look after Country, share their experiences, and collectively explore ways to achieve their goals. Implementing fire to enhance ecosystem health within culturally connected landscapes improves habitat condition and connectivity. Firesticks ultimately strives to empower Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities to work together towards healthy, functional, and resilient landscapes.
